Students of Karve Institute of Social Service, Pune visit MOHAN Foundation Delhi-NCR

  • On December 10, 2018, students pursuing Masters in Social Work, under the Medical and Psychiatric Social Work (MPSW) specialization, visited MOHAN Foundation, NCR office as a part of their study tour in Delhi. Mr. Dada Dadas, Assistant Professor, had contacted Dr. Pallavi Rekhi, Programme Officer, MOHAN Foundation to coordinate the visit.

     

    13 students, along with their faculty visited the office. Ms. Pallavi Kumar (Executive Director) welcomed them and shared that she herself is an alumni of their Institute and passed out in 1995. She asked them questions on organ donation to gauge their knowledge regarding the same and then took them through a presentation, explaining the concept of brain death, how is it different from coma, myths associated with organ donation etc. She then spoke about the work of the Foundation, its objectives and the challenges faced in implementing those objectives.

     

    Then, Anindita Sabath, Transplant Coordinator discussed the role of a transplant coordinator in a hospital setting and the challenges faced by her in counselling the families. The participants had various queries in this context which were answered and taken care of.

     

    The session ended with a motivational video on organ donation. Many of the students were keen to get enrolled in the transplant coordinator’s training program.
