Students and Staff of Adichunchanagiri Institute of Medical Sciences learn about Organ Donation

  • Dr. Kumar U, HOD - Department of Forensic Medicine from Adichunchanagiri Institute of Medical Sciences in Mandya invited MOHAN Foundation to conduct an interactive session on organ donation for the students and staff of the college. MOHAN Foundation team organized the awareness event in collaboration with Jeevasarthakathe. Around 480 students and 6 teachers participated in this awareness session which was held on 19th November 2019.

    MOHAN Foundation was represented by Mrs. Ranjini Shankar M S, Project Manager and Ms. Hemavathi, Transplant Coordinator. Jeevasarthakathe was represented by Dr. Kishore Phadke, the Convener.

    The following topics were discussed in detail:

    • An Introduction to MOHAN Foundation
    • Brain Stem Death
    • Circulatory Death
    • Jeevasarthakathe and its role
    • Organ allocation system in Karnataka
    • The burden of organ failure and need for organ donation
    • Importance of a Donor Card

    During the interaction, the audience raised questions related to the following:

    • Consent Forms
    • Green Corridor
    • Criteria to be a donor
    • Brain stem death certification process
