December is a season of celebration. St. Thomas Syro Malabar Catholic Church, Aynavaram, Chennai decided to celebrate the Christmas season in all branches at Chennai for the noble cause of organ donation. Syro Malabar Catholic church has association called Chennai Mission. Chennai Mission association invited MOHAN Foundation to give an awareness talk at St. Thomas Syro Malabar Catholic Church, Aynavaram on 2nd December 2013.
The programme started with a welcome speech given by Mr. Francis, member of the parish, Mugappair, Chennai. Following that Ms. S. Kavitha, Marketing Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation delivered a talk on Organ Donation. Her talk concentrated to following topics: Concepts of Organ Donation, Types of Donors, Organs that can be donated after natural and brain death, Importance of Donor Card, Statistics of organ donation for Tamilnadu and Kerala, Information was given on Toll free Helpline number.
She ended her talk by sharing few real stories, by which the whole group was moved. After the session few participants raised queries like:
1. Can a diabetes and hypertensive patient donate organs?
2. If I stay outside of Tamil Nadu will this Donor card be accepted?
3. Can organs can be stored?
All the queries were clarified. After that Father Joseph, Priest gave inspiring speech to group and also stressed that be a Christian we all should support the noble cause and make your family members register for Organ Donation. The Vote of thanks was given by Mr. Sebastin, member of parish, St. Thomas Syro Malabar Catholic Church, Aynavaram. Nearly 50 people attended the session and all promised to take this message home and join hands for noble cause.
