St. Antony Matric Hr Secondary School promotes a Noble Cause on Independence Day

  To celebrate 68^th Independence Day on 15^th Aug 2014, St. Antony Matric Hr Sec School, Thiruvottiyur, Chennai initiated an awareness talk on Organ Donation. Mr.James Sathyaraj, Vice Principal invited Cadaver Transplant Programme to give an awareness talk on Organ Donation. Mr. Prakash K. Transplant Coordinator was deputed from MOHAN Foundation to speak at the programme.

  The programme began with a welcome address by Mr. John Britto, Principal, followed by flag hoisting. He explained the importance of event and Mr. Prakash explained the concepts of Organ Donation to the students and staff. The first donor card was pledged by the principal of the school.

  The following topics were covered during the talk:

  • Activities of MOHAN Foundation across the country to strengthen the Deceased Organ Donation programme
  • Types of Organ Donation - Live and Deceased Donation
  • Difference between Brain death and Coma
  • Importance of Donor card & Importance of the consent from the family
  • MOHAN Foundation website and helpline number as sources of information

  400 students attended the morning  celebrations and  50 teachers picked the donor card and pledged their organs. 150 information brochures were distributed.
