On April 24, 2026, MOHAN Foundation conducted an organ and tissue donation awareness session at Vidya Peetam Senior Sec. School for all the teaching staffs. Around 80 teachers attended the session. Information brochures along with green ribbons were distributed to all teachers to reinforce awareness and encourage support for organ donation.
The session began with a movie quiz as a warm-up activity, where it was observed that many teachers were already aware of common myths related to organ donation. Following this, Ms. Kanishka, Project Executive, delivered a session on eye donation awareness. She highlighted the importance of cornea donation and its role in curing corneal blindness, particularly among the younger generation. She also explained the precautions to be taken, the process of eye donation, and addressed the legal and ethical considerations involved.
Next, Mr. Ganesh, Consultant, spoke about organ donation. He explained the different types of donation and elaborated on what organs and tissues can be donated in cases of brain death and circulatory death. He also discussed government schemes available for organ transplantation and addressed common scams related to organ donation with relevant examples. The session concluded with an emphasis on how pledging organs can encourage more people to come forward and spread awareness.
During the interactive session, teachers raised questions regarding the high prevalence of corneal blindness among the younger population, the availability of nearby eye banks in the Sholingur area, and concerns about organ donation scams.
In the feedback session, one teacher shared a personal testimony about how an organ donor helped save her relative who required a heart transplant. Another teacher mentioned that she had recently pledged her organs but was unaware of the complete process; she expressed her willingness to discuss and educate her family members about organ donation.
A total of 50 participants expressed their willingness to pledge and took the donor card.
MOHAN Foundation extends its heartfelt thanks to the school management, the Correspondent Ms. Viswabharathi, the Vice Principal Ms. Jayashree, and all the teachers for their support and active participation in making the session successful.
