Sensitization of Students and Faculty members’ of Patkar Varde College, Goregaon on World Organ Donation Day

  • On 13th August 2020, on the occasion World Organ Donation Day MOHAN Foundation MOHAN Foundation was invited by Department of Biotechnology and Microbiology, S.S. & L.S. Patkar Varde College, Goregaon (West) for giving awareness about the Organ Donation through zoom meeting.

    At around 11.30 am morning Ms Jaya Jairam conducted the session on Google Meet by introducing MOHAN Foundation, its mission, vision and philanthropy. She introduced the concept of Organ and tissue donation. She also explained the types of death viz. Cardiac and Brain Death and the organs and tissues that can be donated. She went on to explain to the audience the concepts of organ donation such as what, why, how and when can one donate organs. She also described that tissue donation (skin & eyes) can happen even at home. She then discussed about Organ Donations that can happen in case of Brain Dead case and number of lives that can be saved by giving the examples of successful transplant stories. She also discussed the myths and beliefs relating to organ donation which cause people to hesitate or back out of organ donation, thereby refusing the chance to save so many lives and also have their loved one continue to live in this world.

    About 120 participants including Students and Faculty members’ attended the awareness session and few took online pledge as Donor Card registering link was shared. We thank Patkar Varde College, Goregaon for inviting us and supporting the cause of Organ Donation.
