Sensitization about Organ Donation held for Police and Traffic Control Staff of Cotton market Police Station, Nagpur

  • On 10th August 2021, MOHAN Foundation in association with Transplants – Help The Poor Foundation was invited by Mr Hanumant Udapilgaokar for giving awareness about the Oran Donation to their police department and Traffic Control Staff of Cotton Market Police Station of Nagpur. Ms Prarthana Dwivedi represented as MOHAN Foundation resource person.

    Ms Prarthana introduced MOHAN Foundation, its mission, vision. She then introduced the concept of Organ and tissue Donation. She also explained the type of death viz. Cardiac and Brain Death and the Organ and tissue that can be donated. She also described the tissue donation (Skin & Cornea) can happen even at home which caught attention of the staff. She then addressed about the myths about Organ Donation public has & how we can debunk them by illustrating the real facts about Organ Donation.

    She then discussed about the Organ Donation that can happen in case of Brain Death case and number of lives that can be saved. Ms Prarthana elaborated the legal aspects, the actual role of police during MLC Brain Death case. She told them as those organs have less time for keeping it alive, the approval should be made as early as they can and donor family should not wait for the NOC from other police station. They were revealed about the actual reason for the creation of Green Corridor for transportation of Organs as it is race against the time as the organs removed needs to be transplanted within the stipulated time.

    About 52 Police Staff and Traffic Control Staff attended the session. About 12 pledges were taken and few were filled online. The officials were also invited to join in our volunteering program. Details of toll-free Organ Donation Helpline Number were also shared with them.
