

A sensitization Programme on organ donation for the house surgeons, staff nurses and technicians from Ophthalmology Department, Tirunelveli Medical College was conducted on 23rd June 2018. The programme was held at the Library, Ophthalmology Department.
Mr. M. Ilamurugu, Transplant Coordinator deputed by MOHAN Foundation to Tirunelveli Medical College addressed the audience. Dr. Varalakshmi, Head Of Department of Ophthalmology at Tirunelveli Medical College who was also present introduced Mr. Ilamurugu to the audience.
Mr. Ilamurugu during his session covered the concepts of organ donation and transplantation to the staff members – Donation after brain stem death, organs and tissues that can be donated after brain stem death and circulatory death, organ donation protocol, donor card, misconceptions about brain stem death, myths about organ donation. He also stressed the vital role played by the nurses and technicians in facilitating the deceased donation programme in a hospital.
A total of 18 House surgeon students, 3 Technicians, 2 Staff nurses and 2 Asst. Professors attended this programme.
