The Faculty of Nursing at ACS Medical College,Chennai held an seminar on organ and tissue on June 13, 2025. The Faculty of Nursing is a top-tier training college that has been in operation for 20 years. All of its courses are approved by the Tamil Nadu Nurses and Midwives Council and the INC, and it is associated with the Dr. M.G.R. Educational and Research Institute, which is considered a university.
The MOHAN Foundation offered a 1.5-hour session on many facets of organ donation under the capable direction of Dr. Parameshwari, Vice Principal, and Prof. V. H. Hema, Principal. Dr. Prof. Hema V. H., Principal, offered a poignant poem about organ donation in her introduction statement. It was beautifully framed and given to the MOHAN Foundation. Around 90 students of 3rd and 4th years nursing attended the session.
Dr. Hemal Kanvinde, MOHAN Foundation Quality Assurance Officer, opened the first session by talking about brain death, organ donation, and hospital protocol. She also described the pledge process and how to help organ-failing patients obtain an organ. A brief film that described brain death came next.
Through role-playing, the nursing students gave two examples of grief counseling. In one instance, a sister persuaded her brother to consent to the mother's corneal donation. Another involved youngsters attempting to persuade their father to approve their grandmother's corneal gift. The delicate communication and emotional state of a donation were emphasized in both cases.
Ms Sangeetha K, Project executive of MOHAN Foundation explained about corneal blindness and how timely eye donation can help give sight to 2- 4 people. She also covered who is eligible to donate, cleared up common myths, and outlined the necessary steps and precautions to ensure a successful donation.
Following this, Dr. Hemal shared real-life case studies of donations, legal concerns surrounding donations, the psychological and emotional effects of organ donation, and the significance of offering sympathetic support to bereaved families. At the conclusion, the students learned about the MOHAN Foundation's training programs, including how to sign up for them and the part transplant coordinators play in promoting organ donation and transplantation.
Around 55 students picked a donor card and pledged to become organ donors. The seminar ended with a vote of thanks by students.
