Rotary Clubs of Chennai adopt "Organ Donation" at a Health Connect

  • On 8th November 2013, Rotary International District (3230), Community Health service team organized an awareness talk in association with MOHAN Foundation .It was initiative by Rtn. Mythili Muralidharan, Director-Health (City).  13 Rotary  clubs actively participated   in the meeting.

    Rtn. Mythili Muralidharan, gave welcome address and introduced Dr. Sunil Shroff, Managing Trustee, MOHAN Foundation. She said that the rotary clubs wish to organise a massive organ donation registration and will work closely with MOHAN Foundation to achieve it.

     

    Following that Dr. Sunil Shroff, MOHAN Foundation delivered talk on Organ Donation. He stated that in India annually there are 1,60,000 road traffic accidents, and 67% are head injury cases. He mentioned that out of 1.2 billion populations nearly 7.85 million people are suffering from kidney failure. To cover this need the only option is Organ Donation.  He touched upon the work of MOHAN Foundation and showed a short movie on brain death.

     

     He focused on following topics:

    1. Who can donate?
    2. Why can donate?
    3. What can be donated?
    4. Time factor for Organ Donation
    5. Importance of Donor Card

     

    The group was moved by the story of Mrs. Lalitha Raghuram. Mr. R.  Ashok, Trainee Transplant Coordinator  of MOHAN Foundation set up an information and registration desk.  Nearly 55 members attended the session and all showed their support for Organ Donation by pledging for Donor Card. All those who pledged were given special donor cards by the District Governor Nomineee,  Rtn. C. R. Raju. Nearly all club members promised to assist MOHAN Foundation in their activities.
