Plant now... fruit later

  • An organ donation awareness talk was held for the 12th standard students of Annai Veilankani Matriculation Higher Secondary School on 22nd January 2013. Nearly 70 students and 6 teachers attended the session.

     

    The session started with a welcome speech by Mrs. Usha Rangarajan, Vice principal, Annai Veilankani Matriculation Higher Secondary School. It was followed by the presentation given by Ms. Kavitha, Transplant Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation. She started the session by giving examples of Lord Ganesha and Adam & Eve.

     

    The main topics discussed during the programme were:

     

    • Types of Donors
    • Difference between Natural Death and Brain Death
    • Difference between Brain Death and Coma
    • Organs that Can Be donated
    • Time of preservation of Organs
    • Importance of Donor Card

     

    The interactive session helped the students and teachers to clarify their doubts and get a better understanding on the concept of deceased organ donation. The session concluded with a touching donor story.

     

    After the session students and teachers raised few questions like

     

    • What is the procedure for Eye Donation?
    • If my parents do not accept organ donation, what I have to do?
    • If I have Donor card, is it compulsory to donate the Organs?

     

    All the students expressed their support for noble cause. At the end of the session information brochures were distributed.
