As part of The Times of India Social Impact Summit: Leading Change through CSR & ESG, a compelling panel discussion titled “Rethinking CSR in Public Health – Preventive, Inclusive and Scalable” brought together prominent voices from healthcare, civil society, and government to explore how Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) can be strategically aligned to strengthen India’s public health systems.

Moderated by senior journalist Malathy Iyer, the panel featured - Ms. Jaya Jairam, MOHAN Foundation, Ms. Shalini Jatia, ImPaCCT Foundation, Tata Memorial Centre, Dr. P. Raghu Ram, Ushalakshmi Breast Cancer Foundation, Dr. Bharat Shah, Gleneagles Hospital, Dr. Sultan Pradhan, CanCare Trust and Mr. Rameshwar Naik, Chief Minister’s Medical Cell, Maharashtra

The discussion emphasised the urgent need to shift CSR investments from a curative focus to preventive healthcare, including early screening, organ donation awareness, and community-level engagement.

Ms. Jaya Jairam shared her personal story as a kidney transplant recipient, highlighting the pressing need for CSR support in the transplant ecosystem, where more than 5 lakh patients are currently awaiting organs. She also pointed out that preventive healthcare is smart economics, as it helps avoid future treatment costs.

The panel also spotlighted innovative efforts by the Government of Maharashtra to improve healthcare access, such as integrated online welfare portals, single-window assistance, and toll-free helplines.

The session reinforced the idea that strategic, equity-focused CSR and ESG efforts can drive sustainable, long-term improvements in public health and help build a more inclusive and resilient healthcare system for India. Around 150 people attended the event.
