
The Kilpauk Residents Welfare Society organized their meeting and a pre Christmas get-together on Dec 20, 2024 at a residence of a member. They invited MOHAN Foundation to speak about organ donation for their members.
15 women members joined the meeting. In a free wheeling talk Dr Hemal Kanvinde, Quality Assurance Officer, MOHAN Foundation, touched upon the concepts of eye donation and body donation. There was a lively discussion and anecdotes about family members becoming donors.
Dr Hemal then spoke about brain death and the process of certification and the Transplant Law. She spoke of what organs can be donated and how an organ failure patient can register to get a deceased organ donation. The process of donation, counseling and organ allocation was explained.
In the Q&A session, the topics discussed were - cost of transplants, adverse outcomes, how to register as a donor, level of difficulty for body donation. 10 members picked a donor card.
