Organ donation awareness at Right College of Nursing

  • MOHAN Foundation conducted an awareness session on Organ Donation for 2nd year students at Right College of Nursing, Vanagaram, Chennai. 36 students attended the talk held on October 26, 2023. Ms. Arshiya Fathima. H (Helpline counsellor) of MOHAN Foundation was the resource persons for the session. 

    Ms. Arshiya began the session with quiz based on tamil cinema to show how mass media can spread misinformation and negatively impact organ donation. She explained the role of MOHAN Foundation followed by her talk on the Concepts of Organ Donation. She spoke of the need for organs, what and when donation can happen. She explained brain death, and the difference between brain death and coma. She spoke of tissue and voluntary body donation and also explained the myths & scams on organ donation. She also gave information on the free service of Organ Donation Helpline 1800 103 7100. At the end of her talk Ms. Arshiya played an educational video on brain death.

    She explained about Ambassador and Transplant Coordinator courses offered by MOHAN Foundation, its structure, value and fee structure. It was an interactive session.

    The talk concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, providing an open ground for further clarification on any uncertainties related to organ donation. 20 students were willing to become organ donors and picked up donor cards.
