  • On May 7, 2025, the MOHAN Foundation had the distinguished honor of organizing an enlightening awareness seminar on organ donation at Vijaya Education Academy for students of Allied Health Sciences. Approximately 200 students  from 2nd year and interns assembled in the college seminar hall to deepen their understanding of organ and tissue donation—an act that holds the power to save countless lives.

The seminar commenced with a warm welcome, followed by an interactive session led by Mrs. Kavitha, who introduced the core principles of organ and tissue donation. Through thought-provoking questions and real-life examples, she engaged the audience in a meaningful discussion covering critical topics such as eligibility for donation, types of organs and tissues that can be donated, and the process and timing involved in donation. She also explained the medical criteria and legal considerations surrounding brain death, the detailed steps involved in organ and tissue donation procedures. A powerful video presentation was shown, offering a visual understanding of brain death and highlighting the emotional importance of grief counselling for donor families.

To enhance comprehension through experiential learning, Dr. Hemal Kanvinde facilitated a hands-on activity titled   “10-Step Protocol for a Successful Deceased Organ Donation".This engaging session encouraged students to actively participate in a simulated walkthrough of the donation process—from the identification of a potential donor to the successful transplantation of organs. The activity helped translate theoretical knowledge into practical insight, fostering a deeper appreciation for the coordination and sensitivity required in real-life scenarios.

In the next segment, Ms. Sangeetha conducted an interactive quiz based on the movies in Tamil that has acts of organ donation in there storyline. This light-hearted but informative competition sparked high levels of participation, with students responding enthusiastically and reinforcing their learning through friendly engagement.

The seminar concluded with a second session by Mrs. Kavitha, during which she presented information about the various training programs offered by MOHAN Foundation, especially "the Transplant Coordinators" Training Program. She explained the importance of skilled professionals in the field, detailed the registration process, and emphasized how  transplant coordinators play a vital role in guiding families and supporting the transplant system.

Adding to the occasion’s significance, the seminar also marked a moment of pride as MOHAN Foundation was honored with an award in recognition of its contributions to promoting organ donation awareness and education. Around 45 students pledged to donate organs by picking a donor card.

MOHAN Foundation thanks the management of Vijaya Health Academy, Dr Gajalaksshmi, Principal for her interest in organ donation.
