Organ Donation awareness at a women’s college in Nagpur

  • Mrs. Babita Thool NSS in-charge of Dayanand Arya Kanya Mahavidyalaya Jaripatka, Nagpur, invited MOHAN Foundation to conduct an awareness session for students of the college. The session took place on 17th January 2019 at the NSS camp at Indira Nagar Buddha Vihar, Nagpur. Around 30 students and 2 teachers were present at the session; 3 of them signed consent forms and received donor cards.

    Mr. Bulu Behera was introduced by Mrs. Babita Thool who also spoke briefly about organ donation and why it is required. Mr. Behera, Transplant Coordinator from MOHAN Foundation, Nagpur gave information about organ donation and transplantation.

    His talk covered the following topics:

    • Necessity and importance of organ donation
    • Type of donors
    • The tissues that could be donated in case of natural death
    • Brain death and the organs and tissues that can be donated in case of brain death
    • Myths related to organ donation
    • Importance of Donor Cards
    • Importance of Help Line number and MOHAN Foundation website

    It was a very inspiring session for the students who were willing to work for the cause of organ donation. Towards the end of the session they were also told about the importance of discussing with family and friends, their wish to donate.
