Organ Donation Talk at Clube Tennis De Gaspar Dias, Panjim, Goa

  • On Saturday, March 7, 2026, Mr. Gabriel Pereira, Organ Donation Ambassador for MOHANFoundation, delivered a talk on organ donation at Clube Tennis De Gaspar Dias, Panjim, Goa, aspart of the club’s centenary year celebrations. The event included discussions on variousaspects of organ donation.Mr. Sanjeev Sardessai, a club member, welcomed Mr. Pereira with a floral bouquet andintroduced him to the audience, highlighting his role as an organ donation ambassador.

    During the session, Mr. Pereira shared that his motivation to promote organ donation stemmedfrom a kidney transplant in his family. He mentioned that he has delivered nearly 200 talks onorgan donation and often begins by asking audiences whether a person who dies at home canbecome an organ donor, to which many respond affirmatively. He clarified that organ donationis possible only after the declaration of brain death and with consent from the next of kin. Healso explained that in cases of circulatory death, only tissues and whole-body donation arepossible.Mr. Pereira further spoke about transplant services available in Goa and the organs and tissuescurrently transplanted in the state. He also mentioned that there are currently 83 patients onthe waiting list under the State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (SOTTO).

    At the end of the session, flyers containing frequently asked questions (FAQs) on organdonation were distributed to the 30 attendees. The flyers included a QR code for thoseinterested in pledging to become organ donors, and five attendees collected donor cards.Mr. Pereira expressed his gratitude to Mr. Sanjeev Sardessai and the club secretary forproviding the opportunity to conduct the awareness session on behalf of MOHAN Foundation.
