Organ Donation Sensitization Program in Sushrutu Medical Institute, Chandrapur

  • On 27th January 2014 Sushrutu Medical Institute of Life Education society, Brahampuri, Chandrapur (District) organised a talk on organ donation.  Dr. Ravi Wankhede Director, Mr. Bulu Behera & Ms. Kanchan Shewde transplant coordinators of MOHAN Foundation were invited by Dr. Khejindra Gedam at to give a talk on deceased organ donation. Dr. Ravi Wankhede sensitized the doctors, nurses, administrative staff of the hospital & community people.

     

    In his talk, Dr. Ravi Wankhede highlighted which organs can be donated after brain death, natural death & live donation. He made them understand that after brain death it is impossible to come back to life. Yet a brain death patient can help several people suffering from organ failure.  It is possible if the relatives of the brain death patient consent to donate the organ such as kidneys, liver, lungs, pancreas, skin, bones, eyes etc.

     

    Dr. Ravi Wankhede mentioned about Transplant Co-ordinator training program. After talk following question was raised such as given below.

    1.       What is the process of kidney transplant?

    2.       Who can give the kidney?

    3.        Is Skin transplant is possible in Nagpur.

    4.       Is there any skin bank in Nagpur?

    5.       How can general public identify the brain death patient?

    6.       What can general public do in natural death if they want to donate tissues?

    55 people attended the session. Dr. Khejendra Gedam thanked to MOHAN Foundation as well as staff to the Brahamapuri Hospital. One person picked a donor card
