Organ Donation Information Desk set up at Ch. Ranbir Singh OPD, PGIMS, Rohtak by SOTTO and MOHAN Foundation

  • On Sept 30, 2021 a voluntary blood donation camp was organized by Sarvjan Kalyan Samiti (Supported by State Bank of India – Medical Branch) at Ch. Ranbir Singh OPD, PGIMS, Rohtak. On this occasion an information desk and organ donation pledge desk were set up at the site by SOTTO (State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization) Haryana with MOHAN Foundation. The desk was manned by Dr Sanaa Bhadwal (Project Leader, MF) and Ms. Deepti Kumari (Transplant Coordinator).

     

    Dr. Sanaa along with the SOTTO team spoke to the donors at the blood donation camp which included students, staff and general public about organ donation, the need for organ donation, how is organ donation done, who can be an organ donor and why it is important to initiate a dialogue about it in the public.

     

    The public was also counselled about the process of signing up to be an organ donor. The individuals who wished to become organ donors were aided in filling up the pledge form (Form 7). Along with this information, pamphlets on organ donation were also distributed among the attendees.

     

    On the occasion of the event Dr. Rohtash Yadav (Director PGIMS), Dr. Ishwar Singh (Medical Superintendent PGIMS) visited the desk and encouraged the team. Dr. Yadav appealed to the public to come forward and join the cause and help SOTTO Haryana in bringing organ donation to the forefront. Dr. Sukhbir Brar, Nodal Officer SOTTO who was also present at the occasion, explained to the public the different types of organ donation possible and highlighted the role of SOTTO in increasing awareness around organ donation in the public.

     

    Through this awareness activity, the team was able to address 350 individuals on the topic of organ donation and  31 individuals signed up to be organ donors.
