November 27, 2020 was commemorated, as National Organ Day in India to commemorate the contributions made to society by deceased donors and their families. The objective of the day is to spread awareness among people and to recognize the selfless efforts made towards mankind and re-establish belief in humanity.
With the support of Inner Wheel Club of Madras – Besant Nagar and Rotary Club of Madras – Besant Nagar, MOHAN Foundation put up an information desk at Elliot’s Beach in the early morning of November 27, 2022 morning. The desk was decorated with a large red heart, selfi boards, picture booth and a signature banner. Information brochures, green ribbons and pledge forms and donor cards were available at the desk.
Dr. Hemal Kanvinde, Mr. Kennedy and Mr Ganesh C from MOHAN Foundation(MF); Ms Vanaja Krishnamurthy, Ms. Krishnaveni from Inner Wheel Club (IWC) – Besant Nagar and Mr Krishnamurthy from and Rotary Club(RC) – Besant Nagar supported in organizing the event. The MF, IWC and RC trio put up a fabulous show in attracting the public and acquiring their support on organ donation. Local Councilor of Ward 179, IWC and RC Members from other region also ensured their presence on the special occasion and being a part of signature campaign.
More than 300 people visited the desk, 114 pinned the green ribbons and affixed their signature to support for organ donation and 91 pledged to becomes organ donors after death. Most of the queries were about the post death process on a donation, organ allocation and outcomes of the transplant.
MOHAN Foundation extends its gratitude to Mrs. Vanaja Krishnamurthy IWC and the Tamilnadu Police Department for the opportunity and support in making the moment a memorable one.
