“Organ Donation Drive” by Rotary Club Ambala Central in Association with Health Department, Haryana, at P.K.R. Jain Girls Senior Secondary School, Ambala City

  • On August 26, 2023, SOTTO Haryana, along with the MOHAN Foundation, was invited to the "Organ Donation Drive" organised by Rotary Club Ambala Central in association with the Health Department of Haryana at P.K.R. Jain Girl Senior Secondary School, Ambala City. 

     

    Rotarian Sunil Dutt, President of Rotary Club Ambala Central, who was leading the programme, addressed that this drive aims to raise awareness, dispel myths, and promote registration for organ donation through the participation of eight different Rotary Club groups, including Rotary Club Ambala, Rotary Club Ambala City, Rotary Club Shahbad Markanda, Rotary Club Babain, Rotary Club Ambala INDL. Area, Rotary Club Barara, Rotary Club Amond-Ambala C City, and Rotary Club Midtown Ambala City.

     

    Sh. Sandeep Singh, the Hon’ble Minister of Sports for Haryana, was the chief guest at the event. Sh. Aseem Goyal, MLA of Ambala City; Sh. Arun Mongia, District Governor of Rotary Club Ambala; Dr. Nirmal Singh Sidhu, ASMO at Haryana Civil Medical Services; and Dr. Sukhpreet, District Nodal Officer, Ambala, were the guests of honor. The event began with the lamp-lighting ceremony.

     

    Rotarian Sunil Dutt extended a warm welcome to all the dignitaries, Rotary Club Presidents, ROTTO North, SOTTO Haryana, MOHAN Foundation, and Rotarians present in the hall.

     

    Rotarian Rajesh Kumar, Project Chairman of the Drive, briefed the gathering through a presentation on organ donation, covering various topics, the overall scenario of organ donation, and the growing need for organ transplants due to the rise of organ failure. Then, he focused on the Human Anatomy Act 1984, the law enacted for transplantation (THOA), the definition of brain dead, the brain-dead committee, brain stem death identification and declaration, the difference between coma and brain stem death, the process to pledge to donate organs by filling out the organ donation form 7 (for organ and tissue pledging), and the importance of a donor card.

     

    Sh. Arun Mongia and Dr. Sukhpreet then addressed the audience for the same cause.

     

    In his address note, Dr. Nirmal Singh Sidhu clarified all questions and misconceptions that participants had. During the programme, ROTTO North and SOTTO Haryana, along with MOHAN Foundation, were invited as motivational speakers.

     

    At the conclusion of the event, all attendees signed the organ donation pledge. The Rotary Club thanked all the attendees for sharing their knowledge and experience to assist in launching this awareness campaign by their presence.

     

    The event was attended by about 120 members of the Rotary Club.
