Organ Donation Awareness talk for nursing students deputed to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, Chennai

  • Ms. Sunitha, Mr. Prakash and Ms. Gieetha Transplant Coordinators, MOHAN Foundation organized an Awareness programme on 9th January 2016 for the 2nd year DGNM nursing students from Cuddalore Govt Hospital who were placed in RGGGH for training. Totally 53 students participated in the awareness programme.

     

    The session started with an ice breaking activity conducted by Mr. Prakash. K. Then Ms. Sunitha introduced the topic and the need for the awareness.

    Ms. Gieetha explained about the concept of organ donation, myths about organ donation, who can be a donor, what is Natural/cardiac Death, Brain Death, early identification and certification, difference between Brain death and Coma, organs and the tissues that can be donated after Brain Death.

    There was another activity conducted by Mr. Prakash. K based on Eye Donation to refresh the students.

     Ms. Sunitha also highlighted the nurse’s role in identifying and maintaining the potential brain dead donor. She also spoke about the importance of counselling specially grief counselling in organ and tissue donation.

    Ms. Sankaridevi Program Officer, Cadaver Transplant Programme addressed the gathering and explained about the organ allocation and need for organ donation. She mentioned that Tamilnadu plays a major role in organ donation and seen 3954 Tissue and Organ donation from October 2008 to October 31, 2015.

    At the end of the program  a small planning session was conducted by   Mr. Prakash.K for upcoming competition. Ms. Gieetha delivered the vote of thanks.
