Organ Donation Awareness for the NCC Students and Officers of KR Puram, Bengaluru

  • Mr. Marulappa had a meeting with NCC Officer Mr. Srinivasan and organised an awareness session for the NCC students from the KR Puram area (Airforce batch) on 18th October 2021. MOHAN Foundation was represented by Mr. Marulappa, Transplant Coordinator and Mrs. Ranjini Shankar M S, Project Manager and around 165 members attended the session.

    Mrs. Ranjini began the session by introducing MOHAN Foundation, its mission, vision. She then explained the concept of organ and tissue donation, types of death - circulatory death and brain death, brain death declaration and apnoea test. The procedure involved in deceased organ donation and living organ donation were explained elaborately. Eye, skin and bone donation, barriers to organ donation, common myths and facts related to organ donation and their impact on organ donation rates were covered as well.

    She briefly explained the role of Jeevasarthakathe, transplant law, the importance of a donor card and introduced audience to the green corridor concept.

    Towards the end of the session the following few topics were discussed:

    • Many hospitals are not aware of the organ donation concept, even though they declare a high number of brain deaths
    • Are communicable diseases a contraindication to organ donation?

    158 members from the audience pledged their organs and collected donor cards during the occasion.
