  • “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.”

August 13th being the world organ donation day, a variety of activities were organised by MOHAN Foundation to spread awareness about organ donation, across the country. This also included an interactive session about organ donation by Bhavana Akilan, a grade 12 student interning with the Foundation along with Dr. Hemal Kanvinde and Ishwarya for a team at MIOT Centre for Children’s Cardiac Care, Chennai. The team of 15 included doctors, nurses, perfusionists and technicians.

The session was held on 27th August at 3pm on Google Meet, enabling off-duty professionals to take part as well. It spanned a little over an hour. It covered the following topics in detail:

    • Concepts of organ donation
    • Types of donation
    • Cadaver donation and the process
    • Living donation
    • Statistics over the years
    • The work done by MF
    • Details about the donor card
    • Common myths associated with organ donation
    • Impact of social media

The session ended with a detailed Q&A session with Dr. Hemal and Ishwarya from the Foundation answering the audience’s questions, which mainly included details about the donor card, signing up as a donor, consent required for donation, brain death vs. coma, impact of COVID-19 on the organ donation accidents, networking, etc. The enthusiasm of the participants and their willingness to spread the word about organ donation and also sign up as donors themselves made the entire experience a worthy, enriching and rewarding one.
