Organ Donation Awareness for Senior Citizens at Nanak Shilpi Colony Koradi Mahadula, Nagpur

  • On 3rd March 2021, MOHAN Foundation in association with Transplants – Help The Poor Foundation conducted an awareness session on Organ Donation for Senior citizens of Nanak Shilpi colony situated at Koradi Mahadula, Nagpur. This session was conducted under the coordination of Mr Saurabh and Dr Sangita Chaudhary (Physiotherapist IGMC, Nagpur) who were the secretary of Nanak Shilpi colony.

    Ms. Prarthana introduced MOHAN Foundation and spoke about its philanthropy. She asked about the organ donation to the gathering so as all were non-medicos they were totally blank and had no idea about the organ donation as they knew about eye donation only.

    Ms. Prarthana explained the concepts of Organ Donation, why and when is organ transplant operation required. She also explained various organs that can be donated, types of donors, types of death, viability of organs after retrieval. She then explained the difference between Brain death and Cardiac Death. She also elaborated the Transplantation of Human Organs Act, and discussed about the myths and misconceptions related to organ donation. She also briefed about Skin donation, Eye donation, Organ donation and Body donation.

    Gathering asked the following questions:

    • Will the body be disfigured after bone or skin donation?
    • Process of body donation?
    • Can old age person donate organ after death and how?

    Ms. Prarthana answered all the queries promptly. About 15 members took Pledge and few were filed online. The session which began around 6:30 pm was attended by 20 participants. We thank Dr Sangita Chaudhary for inviting us and supporting the cause of Organ Donation.
