Organ Donation Awareness for NSS Students

  • On 5th January 2019, MOHAN Foundation was invited by Dr. Naveen Chandran, NSS in-charge of Matru Sewa Sangh Institute of Social Work, Bajaj Nagar, Nagpur to conduct an awareness session for its students at the NSS camp at Deoli village, Nagpur. Around 60 students and 4 professors were present at the session.

    Dr. Naveen Chandran introduced Mr. Bulu Behera, briefly spoke about organ donation and why it is required. Mr. Behera, Transplant Coordinator at MOHAN Foundation, Nagpur gave information about organ donation and transplantation.

    His talk covered the following topics:

    • Necessity and importance of organ donation
    • Type of donors
    • Tissues that could be donated after natural death
    • Brain death and the organs and tissues that could be donated after brain death
    • Myths related to organ donation
    • Importance of Donor cards
    • Importance of Help Line number and MOHAN Foundation website

    It was an interactive session and all the NSS students were highly motivated and promised to come forward and work to make organ donation a success. At the end of the session they were also told about the importance of having a discussion with family about their wish to be organ donors.
