Organ Donation Awareness during COVID India Campaign at Chitradurga

  • ICATT Foundation conducted world’s largest COVID Safe CPR training program, in partnership with CryptoRelief. Dr. Shalini Nalwad (Chairperson - ICATT Foundation Co-founder - COVID India Campaign, Co-founder and Director - ICATT Air Ambulance) invited MOHAN Foundation to put up an information desk at Anubhava Mantapa in Sri Murugha Matha at Chitradurga from 24-26th September 2021 to spread awareness about organ donation. Mr. Shridhar Hanchinal, Hon. Director of MOHAN Foundation coordinated the event with Dr. Nalwad.

    MOHAN Foundation was represented by Mr. Marulappa LN (Transplant Coordinator) and Mrs. Ranjini Shankar MS (Project Manager).

    The chief guest for the program was Dr. Sri Shivamurthy Murugha Sharanaru in whose presence the program was inaugurated. The introductory address was delivered by Dr. Shalini Nalwad.

    24th September 2021: Medical students, nursing students and paramedics

    25th September 2021: Dalith Sangha members and public

    26th September 2021: Aaganwadi Asha workers and local heads of Chitradurga

     

    Mrs. Ranjini began her talk by introducing MOHAN Foundation, its mission and vision and proceeded to explain the following:

    • the concept of organ and tissue donation
    • the types of death i.e., circulatory death and brain death
    • brain death declaration, apnoea test and other clinical tests
    • procedure of deceased and live organ donation
    • procedures of eye, skin and bone donation
    • barriers to organ donation
    • myths and facts related to organ donation
    • the role of Jeevasarthakathe
    • transplant Law
    • importance of a donor card

    A recent case of donation from Dharwad where organ donation was facilitated by MOHAN Foundation team, using a green corridor was explained to the audience. She also shared the inspiring story of a hand transplant recipient Ms. Shreya Siddanagowder.

    Around 3400 people attended the session during the 3-day campaign - around 1300 on the first day, 1000 on the second and 1100 on the third. Around 988 people proudly pledged as organ donors during the campaign and collected the donor cards. MOHAN Foundation is thankful to ICATT and Dr. Nalwad for the opportunity.
