Indrani College of Nursing (ICON), Puducherry commemorated International Organ Donation Day on August 13, 2025. An awareness talk was planned for the second-year B.Sc. nursing students by MOHAN Foundation.
Ms. Dhanalakshmi J, an assistant professor, gave the opening remarks before Dr. Mallika M, the principal, welcomed Mr. Ganesh C, a senior project executive, and Ms. Sangeetha K, a project executive representing MOHAN Foundation.
Mr. Ganesh discussed the MOHAN Foundation and its contributions to the organ donation movement. Following a brief movie on Netha Daan that highlighted the significance of corneal donation was played for the students. This was followed by a short talk on Concepts of Eye donation by Ms. Sangeetha. She discussed the need for corneal donation, pledging process and the precautions that should be taken during actual donation.
The idea of organ donation, what ca be donated under different circumstances, brain death, the time element, how to register as a recipient, how to locate a hospital with a transplantation license, myths and facts, and how to avoid scams were all covered by Mr. Ganesh. A film titled "Understanding Brain Death" was streamed for greater comprehension.
Students enthusiastically engaged in a movie-related quiz that was set up to enliven the audience. He then went on to discuss the MOHAN Foundation's courses and the job possibility for nursing students as transplant coordinators.
