Organ Donation Awareness at a Memorial Event in Nagpur

  • MOHAN Foundation was invited by Dr. Satish Kadam to speak on deceased organ donation and also setup an information stall on the occasion of ‘Nischay Din’ (Death Anniversary) in memory of late Shri. Ganesh J Kadam on 04th August 2019. The venue was Acharya Vinoba Bhave Vichar Kendra in Dharampeth, Nagpur.

    Dr. Ravi Wankhede, Director of MOHAN Foundation Nagpur delivered the talk. In his talk he explained the concepts of organ donation, brain death and the donation process. He listed the organs and tissues can be donated after brain death and natural death and also gave information about living donations. He explained how it is impossible to come back to life following brain death and that organs from a brain dead person can save more than eight lives if his/her family consents to organ donation.

    After the talk he gave information about MOHAN Foundation’s activities and its toll-free helpline number. The importance of donor cards and the role of ZTCC in organ donation were also discussed. Thereafter he requested those present to use the MOHAN Foundation website and toll-free number to seek clarity on the subject when required. Around 60 family members and friends of the Kadam family were present at the event.

    Mr. Bulu Behera and Ms. Kanchan Shewde managed the stall, which saw 30 visitors coming and 10 signing consent forms and received donor cards.
