Updated on Friday, November 30, 2018
  • The Tamil Nadu Police Academy at Vandalur invited MOHAN Foundation to conduct an awareness programme on organ donation on 29th November, 2018 for its officials and cadets in training. Mr. Siva Shankar (Helpline Executive, MOHAN Foundation), Mr. Arun Jose and Ms. Kaviya P (Interns from MMM College of Health Sciences) from the Foundation coordinated the programme.

The programme was split into two sessions – one for the TN police officials and the other for the cadets undergoing training at the Academy, each lasting for one hour. The participants were given survey forms to fill to understand their knowledge on organ donation at the beginning of the sessions.

Mr. Siva Shankar in his talk spoke about concepts of organ donation, the need for organ donation, and meaning of death. He also explained the role of police in transplantation.

An award-winning exhibit titled ‘Life Before Ashes,’ comprising of installations of human organs modeled using human ashes was also on display.

Following were the few questions raised at the sessions:

    • Do details about the donor get disclosed to the recipient’s family?
    • How does an available organ get allocated to the appropriate patient?
    • Do private hospitals perform better than government hospitals?

A few officials registered their names as organ donors and received donor cards.

MOHAN Foundation thanks the Tamil Nadu Police Academy for providing the opportunity to talk about Organ Donation.
