Organ Donation Awareness at Smt. Nimbunabai Tirpude Hospital and Research Centre, Nagpur

  • On 6th November 2019, MOHAN Foundation, in association with Transplants – Help the Poor Foundation, conducted an awareness session on organ donation. It was held at Smt. Nimbunabai Tirpude Hospital and Research Centre, for the hospital’s nursing staff and relatives of the patients.

    Ms. Prarthana Dwivedi (Transplant Coordinator) began with an introduction about MOHAN Foundation - its mission, vision and activities. She then introduced the concepts of organ and tissue donation. She also explained the types of death viz. cardiac and brain death, and the organs and tissues that can be donated in both cases. She elaborated on the bone donation procedure which was a new topic for the nursing staff.

    She also described how skin and eye donation can happen even at homes. She then discussed donations that can happen in case of brain death cases and how a number of lives that can be saved by quoting examples of successful transplant stories, articles and news about green corridor which was somewhat familiar to the gathering. She also explained about the religious barriers and myths related to organ donation. The Foundation’s Toll-free Helpline (1800 103 7100) was also shared with the audience.

    About 20 hospital staff and relatives of patients attended the awareness session and 10 ended up taking the pledge .MOHAN Foundation is thankful to Mr. Rajkumar Tirpude (Director of the Hospital) for inviting us and supporting the cause of organ donation.
