Organ Donation Awareness at Science College, Nagpur

  • Dr. P S Utale, an Associate Professor and the NSS In-charge at the Science College in Congress Nagar, Nagpur organized an awareness session on organ donation for the students of the college. The event took place on the 6th February 2020 in the college premises and around 200 students were present.

    Dr. Ravi Wankhede, Director of Mohan Foundation, Nagpur was at the college to address the students. Dr. Utale briefly introduced organ donation and Dr. Wankhede and spoke a few words about the importance of organ donation.

    Dr. Ravi Wankhede gave information related to the following topics to the students:

    • What is organ donation?
    • Whom to contact for organ donation?
    • The Transplantation of Human Organs Act 1994
    • What is natural death and brain death?
    • What is the eye donation process?
    • What is the body donation process?
    • Causes of brain death
    • Role of ZTCC in organ donation and transplantation
    • Activities of MOHAN Foundation, using its website and helpline number

    Questions asked by participants:

    • What is brain death?
    • What is the time duration for organ donation?
    • What is bone marrow?

    Around 10 students signed consent forms and took donor cards. At the end of the session
    Dr. Utale delivered the vote of thanks, thanking MOHAN Foundation as well as the participants.
