Organ Donation Awareness Talk on World Homoeopathy Day, Bandora, Ponda, Goa

  • An organ donation awareness session was conducted on April 12, 2026, on the occasion ofWorld Homoeopathy Day, by Homoeopathic Medical Association of India – Goa branch inassociation with Shri Kamaxidevi Homoeopathic Medical College & Hospital, Shiroda, Indian RedCross Society, Ponda branch, MOHAN Foundation, Nandanvan Residents Association, PatantalliKavale, Bandora, along with South Goa District Hospital – Blood Bank.

    The event was held atNandanvan Hall, Patantalli Kavale, Bandora, Ponda, Goa.The host had various programs lined up from 9.30 am till 1 pm. The first was an organ donationtalk, followed by the blood donation camp, which was the 83rd time, with free cholesterol &blood sugar check-ups.The aim was to educate the community about the importance and process of organ donation.The session was led by Gabriel, who was introduced as an Organ Donation Ambassador fromthe MOHAN Foundation (Multi Organ Harvesting Aid Network)Gabriel began by expressing his gratitude to Dr Kautuk P. Bhatikar, the Chairman of the IndianRed Cross Society, Ponda Branch and the Hospital in Charge of Shri Kamaxidevi HomoeopathicMedical College & Hospital, Shri. Madhu A. Naik, a member of IRCS, Ponda branch, and theChairman of Nandanvan Residents Association, the Sarpanch, and all attendees for theirpresence and support in organising the session. He then delivered an informative talk on organdonation, highlighting key differences among donation types.

    He explained the concept of circulatory death, under which only tissues such as skin, eyes, andthe whole body may be considered for donation. Further, he elaborated on brain death,clarifying that organ donation is only possible when a person is declared brain dead, and withthe consent of the family, provided the organs are viable for retrieval.To engage the audience, he asked questions regarding which organs and tissues are beingtransplanted in the state and which hospitals perform these procedures. Participants whoanswered correctly were rewarded with MOHAN Foundation keychains.

    The session was largely conducted using a PowerPoint presentation, making it interactive andeasy to understand. Additionally, Gabriel distributed around 50 frequently asked questions(FAQs) addressing common questions related to organ donation. He also shared a QR code thatenabled attendees to pledge to be an organ donor

    .Encouragingly, eight individuals came forward and pledged to become organ donors during thesession.The event concluded with Gabriel thanking the host organisation for providing a platform tospread awareness and encouraging everyone present to continue promoting the noble cause oforgan donation.
