An informative and engaging talk on organ donation was conducted on April 13, 2026, at Fr Agnel Higher Secondary School, Pilar, Goa. The session was attended by approximately 250 students and aimed at raising awareness about the importance and impact of organ donation.
The speaker for the session was Mr Gabriel Pereira, an organ donation ambassador from the MOHAN Foundation. He addressed the students with great enthusiasm, emphasising the significance of organ donation and its potential to save lives. As an ambassador of the organ donation program, he encouraged students to extend this noble mission beyond the auditorium by spreading awareness among their families and friends.
Using a PowerPoint presentation, he covered various aspects of organ donation in a clear and accessible manner. He explained that organ donation is possible primarily in cases of brain death, helping students understand the medical criteria involved. Additionally, he clarified that individuals who pass away at home due to circulatory death can still contribute as tissue donors or even opt for whole body donation. The session was highly interactive, with Gabriel engaging students through questions related to transplant hospitals and the types of organs and tissues that can be donated within the state. Students who answered correctly were rewarded with pens, which added enthusiasm and participation to the session.
At the conclusion of the program, Gabriel expressed his gratitude to the school authorities. He thanked the Principal, Rev. Fr Jerry Vaz, SFX (Society of the Missionaries of St. Francis Xavier) and the coordinating teacher, Ms Dorothy, for organising the event successfully.
Overall, the session was educational, interactive, and impactful, leaving students better informed and motivated to support the cause of organ donation.
