On July 29, 2025, Mr. Gabriel Pereira, an Organ Donation Ambassador with MOHAN Foundation, conducted an awareness session on organ donation for students at Agnel Polytechnic, Verna, Goa.
The session was conducted in three batches across different departments: at 10:00 AM for Automobile Engineering students, 11:15 AM for Mechanical Engineering students, and 12:15 PM for Computer Engineering students. Approximately 150 students attended the sessions, each accompanied by their respective class teachers.
Mr. Gabriel began by sharing his personal connection to the cause, explaining that his interest in organ donation was sparked after a close family member received a life-saving transplant six years ago. He covered essential aspects of organ donation, including the types of death, the organs and tissues that can be donated in each scenario, and the concept of brain stem death. Special emphasis was placed on helping students understand the clinical and legal aspects of brain death.
He also explained how organ allocation is managed through SOTTO–Goa and outlined the roles of ROTTO and NOTTO in the national transplant network.
Mr. Gabriel highlighted that the month of July is observed as Organ Donation Month, culminating in Indian Organ Donation Day on August 3, 2025.
The session included short informative videos introducing MOHAN Foundation’s work, explaining brain death, and featuring the moving testimony of Ms. Shreya Siddanagowder, a bilateral hand transplant recipient.
Mr. Gabriel expressed his sincere gratitude to Dr. Rickey T. P. Nunes, Principal of Agnel Polytechnic, for the opportunity to conduct the session and raise awareness among the student community on behalf of MOHAN Foundation.
