Organ Donation Awareness Session at Symbiosis Institute of Technology, Nagpur

  • On 22nd  August 2022, Symbiosis Institute of Technology (SIT) under Symbiosis University, Nagpur invited Mr.Devang Chhaya, Life Member, MOHAN Foundation to conduct  an Organ Donation Awareness Session.  t was the inaugural day of the Induction Program organized for its150 students of 2022-23 batch of B.Tech CSE course. The session titled ‘Gift Of Life’ was also attended by Dr. M. Raghuvanshi, Director, SIT, Dr. Poorva Agarwal and other Senior faculty members and staff of the Institute.

     

    The Organ Donation Awareness Session was delivered through a lecture-cum-presentationaimed to spread awareness regarding Human Organs & Tissues Donation & Transplantation andintroduce the participants to various concepts and aspects involved in donation andtransplantation of human organs and tissues. Some of the issues covered in the presentationwere (a) Difference between body donation and organ donation (b) Need for pledging anddonating organs (c) Types of Donation: Living & Deceased (d) Various Organs & Tissues that canbe donated by living and dead donors (e) Brain Stem Death: concept, main causes andcertification process (f) Time window available for transplantation of organs from deceaseddonor; Green corridor etc. (g) Functioning of Organ allocation network: ZTCC, SOTTO, ROTTO,NOTTO. Two videos titled ‘Live Beyond Life’ by Shweta Gupta and ‘What is Brain Stem Death’presented by MOHAN Foundation in partnership with Organ India were also shown to reinforcethe presentation.

     

    The participants were informed of the various functions and roles of MOHAN Foundation as theleading NGO spearheading the Organ Donation and Transplantation movement in India as wellas the various courses being conducted by it. Participants were impressed upon to considerpledging their organs and give a gift of life. They were also informed of the online process ofpledging their organs and tissues and obtaining their donor card from www.mohanfoundation.org portal. A question-answer session that followed the presentation saw keen participation by studentsand faculty alike which helped them to clarify doubts and dispel myths and superstitionssurrounding organ donation.On conclusion of the session, Mr. Devang complimented Symbiosis Institute of Technologymanagement for giving due importance to such a humanitarian issue by including the sessionon the inaugural day of the Induction Program. By organizing this session, SIT has alsocontributed their mite in spreading awareness regarding the ultimate altruistic gesture of OrganDonation amongst its students.
