Organ Donation Awareness Initiative – Telangana Model School and Junior College, Chevella

  • On 16.03.2026, an organ donation awareness session was successfully conducted at Telangana Model School and College, Chevella, Ranga Reddy District.

    Despite challenges such as space constraints and transportation issues, the programme was carried out effectively, with engaging sessions conducted for students of Grades 6 and 9, reaching over 320 students and faculty members.

    The programme covered key topics including:

    • Meaning and types of organ donation
    • Difference between brain death and cardiac arrest
    • Eye donation – process and importance
    • Organ donation in medico-legal and sensitive situations
    • Legal framework under the Transplantation of Human Organs Act (THOA), 1994
    • Importance of donor cards
    • Addressing myths and misconceptions
    • The procedure for Jeevandhan registration
    • Donor case studies

    The students’ curiosity was truly encouraging. They raised thoughtful and insightful questions, particularly regarding the diagnosis of brain death, procedure for organ transplantation which made the session highly interactive and intellectually enriching. Notably, 2 participants pledged their organs by displaying donor cards.

    Overall, the programme was impactful and contributed meaningfully to spreading awareness about organ donation among young students
