The Eye Bank is on the ground floor of the Cornea Block in the hospital. In the eye bank, the staff showed how corneas are stored in a sterile tube, under refrigeration.  The technician showed the autoclave with all equipment ready to be taken for a retrieval call. She explained the process of donation, evaluation and finally transplantation. She emphasized on the immaculate record keeping for every donation and explained the quality tests done at the microbiology labs.

Corneas of poor quality are collected in a sliver bottle and are used for training in suturing. The staff in the eye bank also mentioned that entire eye ball could also be retrieved and the cornea is taken and transplanted to another person. The process of eye donation and transplantation is managed by Lions Club International, Chennai. MOHAN Foundation is grateful to its Director Dr. MVS Prakash and Cornea Chief Dr. Pramila of the RIO for their support.
