One Day Workshop on ‘Strengthening Organ Donation & Transplant Processes’ Organized by Pt. B.D. Sharma University of Health Sciences, Rohtak, in Collaboration with SOTTO Haryana & MOHAN Foundation

  • SOTTO Haryana and MOHAN Foundation organized a one-day workshop on ‘Strengthening Organ Donation & Transplant Processes’ at Pt. B.D. Sharma University of Health Sciences, Rohtak on March 29, 2023 at the Lecture Theatre 1, PGIMS, Rohtak. Doctors, nursing officers and operation theatre technicians participated in the workshop.

     

    The workshop began with the lamp lighting ceremony by the dignitaries. The dignitaries who were present were; Chief Guest Dr. S. S. Lohchab (Director, Pt. B. D. Sharma PGIMS, Rohtak); Guest of Honor Dr. K. S. Laller (Dean, Pt. B. D. Sharma PGIMS, Rohtak); Organizing Chairperson Dr. Ishwar Singh (Medical Superintendent, Pt. B. D. Sharma PGIMS, Rohtak); Organizing Secretary Dr. Sukhbir Singh (Deputy Medical Superintendent, Nodal Officer, SOTTO Haryana, PGIMS, Rohtak), Ms. Pallavi Kumar (Executive Director, MOHAN Foundation) and Mrs. Ishwanti (Nursing Superintendent, Pt. B. D. Sharma PGIMS, Rohtak).

     

    Dr. Sukhbir Singh, in his welcome address, thanked the dignitaries for sharing their knowledge and experience to help energize the organ donation program at PGIMS, Rohtak.

     

    The workshop covered various topics such as an overview of deceased organ donation in India, the legal framework for deceased organ donation in India, brain stem death – identification and certification, grief counselling and making the ask for organ donation, the role of NOTTO in helping to start an organ donation and transplant programme in a new region (schemes and benefits available), the role of ROTTO – distribution and organ allocation policy, activity – deceased donation pathway in a hospital, and the cornea donation need of the hour.

     

    The resource faculty for the workshop was Dr. Kokkula Praneeth (Asst. Professor, Department of Neurosurgery, AIIMS, New Delhi), Dr. Ritu Gupta (Joint Director, NOTTO, New Delhi), Dr. Navdeep Bansal (Transplant Coordinator, Department of Hospital Administration, PGIMER, Chandigarh), Dr. R. S. Chauhan (Senior Professor & Head Regional Institute of Ophthalmology), Dr. Sukhbir Singh (Sr. Professor, Department of Hospital Administration, PGIMS, Rohtak), Ms. Pallavi Kumar and Dr. Muneet Kaur Sahi (Program Manager, MOHAN Foundation).

     

    Close to 120 people attended the workshop.
