Odisha's Sattvic Soul Foundation organizes a talk on Organ Donation for its Volunteers

  • On 28th August 2021, MOHAN Foundation conducted an awareness session on Organ Donation for the volunteers of  Sattvic Soul Foundation, Odisha. 25 volunteers attended the online session, conducted by Dr Hemal Kanvinde, Quality Assurance Officer of the Foundation. Organ Donation Ambassador, Mr. Subhah Sarangi also joined the program. 

    The session started with an introduction to the activities of Satvic Soul Foundation and MOHAN Foundation by Ms. Subhasmita Rai. A movie that explained the joy of getting an organ was played next. Dr. Hemal in her talk explained the what, why, how and when of organ donation. Difference between brain death and coma was explained clearly. Activities that the volunteers can do were also discussed. Need for keeping a donor card,  living donation and the transplant coordinators course offered by the Foundation were some of the topics discussed after her talk. 

    The organ donation scenario in Odisha was presented by Ms. Anindita Sabath of SOTTO, Cuttack. She gave a brief of the working of SOTTO in promoting organ donation and shared stories of deceased organ donors from Odisha. She spoke of the Suraj Award established by the state government in honour of Odisha's first Organ Donor. 

    The meeting ended with a vote of thanks by Ms. Subhasmita Rai.
