The Social Work students of Mohamed Sathak College of Arts & Science visited MOHAN Foundation on 30th August 2012 for an observation visit. Ms. Veena, Transplant Coordinator, made a presentation on “Concepts of Organ Donation”. She explained the organ donation procedure followed in Tamil Nadu, importance of donor card and the transplant coordinators’ training programme.
Some of the students asked, can organs be stored and then used? Does a family have the right to choose a recipient? Their doubts were cleared and videos promoting organ donation were screened. Students who are planning to take Human Resource as a specialization decided to organize an awareness campaign on organ donation for the staff of the companies where they will be doing their internships. 11 students who attended the session pledged to donate their organs by picking up a donor card. A total of 27 donor cards were distributed as some of the students also took additional donor cards for their family and friends.
