  • An awareness talk on organ donation was given to the people who came to attend the Sunday mass at The Church of Immaculate Conception, Kanhei Village, Gurgaon on August 26, 2012.

The talk was conducted in two sessions, one in Hindi and the other in English. The Hindi session was conducted by Dr Muneet and about 55 people attended the presentation. The main focus of the talk was on organ donation after brain death, legal aspects of organ donation and myths around organ donation. The importance of pledging organs and discussing the same with their loved ones about the decision to donate one's organs was also stressed. The talk was well received and people willingly pledged their organs (32 donor cards were collected).

The English session conducted by Ms Pallavi Kumar was attended by close to 40 people including the parish priest, Rev Fr Susai Sebastian. Incidentally Fr Sebastian is himself an organ donor and signed up the card 2 years ago at Sir Gangaram Hospital. The session was a vibrant one with great participation and sharing by the audience. About 60 donor cards were collected; people took cards for their family members and friends as well.

A woman who had lived in the US for most part of her life and has the US organ donor card said that it was the first time she was hearing of an Indian donor card.

Father Francis Gonsalves, principal of Vidya Jyoti college of Theology spoke to the audience after the session on the Church and the Bible’s perspective on organ donation.

The session was organised by Ms Grace David, who is a kidney recipient herself and has now taken upon herself to help the Foundation create awareness on Deceased Organ Donation.
