On March 10, 12 and 13, 2026, the Department of Urology and Nephrology organized a programme to mark the “World Kidney Day” in collaboration with the MOHAN Foundation, with the aim of promoting awareness about “Kidney Health for All.”
On March 10, 2026, an awareness session was held at the CPD Hall, AIIMS Rishikesh. The programme was conducted to spread awareness about kidney health and highlight the importance of organ donation. Representatives from the MOHAN Foundation were invited to participate in the session, including Mr. Sanchit Arora, Project Lead, MF, Uttarakhand, and Mr. Arun Sharma, Program Executive, MF, Uttarakhand. The invitation was extended by Dr. Sharon Kandari, HOD, Department of Nephrology, AIIMS Rishikesh and Mr. Vrishabh Panchal, Transplant Coordinator, AIIMS Rishikesh.
The session included presentations by Dr. Sharon Kandari; Dr. Deepesh Kumar Dhoot and Dr. Sahil Garg, Associate Professors, Department of Nephrology, AIIMS Rishikesh, and was moderated by Dr. Sandeep Kaur, Senior Resident, Department of Nephrology, AIIMS Rishikesh.
The programme concluded with a Q&A session, during which participants raised questions such as: • Can kidney failure be entirely prevented?
• What dietary precautions can help in preventing kidney damage?
• What lifestyle modifications are needed after a kidney transplant?
• Why does the body sometimes reject a transplanted kidney?
• How do antibodies affect a transplanted kidney in conditions like IgA Nephropathy?
• What treatment options are available for kidney failure apart from transplantation?
On March 12 and 13, 2026, two Nukkad Natak (street play) performances were organized each day in the waiting areas of the Nephrology and Urology OPD and IPD at AIIMS Rishikesh by second year nursing students. The performances actively engaged hospital visitors, including patients, their attendants, security personnel, and nursing staff, serving as an effective awareness activity on maintaining kidney health, preventing kidney disease, and promoting organ donation. Through relatable scenes and meaningful dialogue, the plays encouraged the audience to reflect on healthy lifestyle practices and the life-saving importance of organ donation.
Following the performances, Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials were distributed to participants to enhance understanding of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and organ donation. One of the impactful lines from the play delivered in the local language was, “Marta hai shareer, amar hai aatma; Angdaan se milta hai swayam Parmatma” (“The body may die, but the soul is eternal. Through organ donation, one attains the divine eternal”), which helped dispel myths, encourage reflection, and inspire many in the audience to consider organ donation.
Participants appreciated the efforts of AIIMS Rishikesh and the MOHAN Foundation and expressed their willingness to continue discussions on organ donation within their communities.
Approximately 700 individuals attended the sessions altogether.
