Nurses of NIMHANS learn about Organ Donation

  • The MOHAN Foundation team of Bangalore conducted a sensitization programme in NIMHANS Hospital on 20th December 2019 for staff nurses from Dept. of Diploma in Neuro Nursing, Diploma in Psychiatric Nursing and PhD Nursing.

    MOHAN Foundation was represented by Mr. Marulappa L N, Transplant Coordinator and Mrs. Ranjini Shankar M S, Project Manager.

    The following topics were discussed in detail:

    • Introduction about MOHAN Foundation
    • Brain Stem Death
    • Circulatory Death
    • Jeevasarthakathe and its role
    • Organ allocation system in Karnataka
    • Role of Grief Counselors in Govts Hospitals
    • The burden of organ failure and need for organ donation
    • Importance of a donor card

    During the interaction, the audience raised questions related to the following subjects:

    • Declaration of Brain Death
    • Brain Stem Death Certification Process
    • Is it possible to share organs between states
    • Are foreign nationals eligible for transplants

    Around 21 nurses attended the session, agreed to promote the cause and also exhibited interest to know more about the process.
