New Start with a new hope at CMMH

  • Chennai Meenakshi Multispecialty Hospital(CMMH), Mylapore has recently done their first live renal transplantation and which was successful. In order to create awareness on Organ Donation and Transplantation, they invited MOHAN Foundation to give a talk to their nursing staff. The hospital inaugurated their training room in the hospital with this talk on 13th May 2013.  Dr. V. Krishnamurthy, CEO and Dr. Arasu, Transplant Coordinator of the hospital were present for the inauguration of the  training hall. The HR Department Head Mr. P. Gangadharan organized the first shift nurses to attend the talk.  19 nurses attended the talk.

     

    Ms.Kavitha, Transplant Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation gave a talk. She explained the following topics:

    1. Introduction to activities of MOHAN Foundation
    2. Normal Human physiology
    3. Brain Death and coma
    4. Concepts of Organ Donation and donor card
    5. Series of test involved to confirm Brain Death
    6. Legal issues
    7. Role and responsibilities during the organ donation process
    8. Organs that can be donated
    9. Toll free helpline number

     

    At the end of the session few nurses raised questions like:

    1. If a person dies at home, how he/she can donate their tissues?
    2.  Activities of MOHAN Foundation
    3. Do you train only the nurses?

     

    Nearly 14 nurses showed their support by signing the Donor card.
