Nair Service Society, a social organization sensitized on Brain Death and Organ Donation

  • The Nair Service Society (NSS) is an organization created for the social advancement and welfare of the Nair community that is found primarily in south India. It was established under the leadership of Mannathu Padmanabha Pillai. The Society manages a large number of educational institutions and hospitals.

     

    Mrithasanjeevani, Kerala Network for Organ Sharing (KNOS) was invited by NSS Karayogam, Panagodu to give an awareness talk on organ donation. The programme was held at Sree Kanda Vilasam (SKV) auditorium, at Panagodu, on 29th December, 2013. Programme inaugurated by Mr. Sangeethkumar M, President, Trivandrum Taluk NSS Union. Later Mr. M. Vinodkumar, vice-president NSS union, Mrs. M. Easwaryamma, Women union president addressed the gathering.

     

    Mr. Aneesh P V, Transplant Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation deputed to Mrithasanjeevani, Trivandrum, conducted the session. In his presentation he spoke on the following topics:

     1. Transplantation of Human Organ Act 1994

     2. Types of donation      

     3. Cardiac death and brain death

     4. Brain death certification  

     5. Organs that can be donated after brain death and cardiac death

     6. Age criteria of the donor

     7. KNOS website

     8. Importance of donor card

     9. Organ Donation Toll free help line

     

    Around 80 members participated in the programme. At the end, donor card were distributed to the participants, all the participants pledged their organs by signing the donor card. The programme ended with vote of thanks delivered by Mr. S Vikraman Nair, Joint Secretary, Karayogam NSS Panagodu.
