NSS students of VHS School learn about Organ Donation

  • On 22nd December 2015, the National Service Scheme (NSS) wing of VHS Higher Secondary School invited MOHAN Foundation to address their students during their 10 day camp conducted  at Model Government High School, Thycadu. The XII standard students were present to learn about organ donation.  This programme was referred by KNOS.

     

    The programme began with a welcome address by a student. Mrs. Kavitha Aneesh spoke about the Concepts of Organ Donation. The following topics were covered during the talk:

    • Activities of MOHAN Foundation across the country to strengthen the Deceased Organ Donation programme
    • Types of Organ Donation - Live and Deceased Donation
    • Difference between Brain death and Coma
    • Importance of Donor card and consent from the family
    • Tissues and organs  that can be donated
    • Transplant Coordinators Training Programme
    • Helpline Number  and website as source of information

     

    The students were divided into seven groups to do home visit and sensitize the families living at Thycadu. So after the session there was small discussion and a quiz to understand the level of their knowledge. Many questions were raised and clarified. Nearly 20 students and a teacher attended the session, all promised to sign the donor card when they are 18.
