Multiple awareness sessions on Organ and Tissue Donation at IMU, Chennai

  • The Indian Maritime University (IMU) Chennai Campus was the location for a series of talks on Organ Donation. 

     Students of Faculty of Nautical Sciences  (200),  Business Administration (80) and  Marine Engineering  (70)  were given an Awareness to Eye Donation and  Organ Donation.  This was done in the auditorium of the college as well as in the classroom. Dr Hemal Kanvinde , Quality Assurance officer of MOHAN Foundation was the resource person.  Students were provided with  information brochures and green ribbons to mark the session. 

     She began her session with a talk on Eye Donation - the need, the process and precautions for a successful eye donation. 

     Next she played a video about the Gift of Life.  And explained the concepts of Organ donation - what, how, when and what.  She also clarified  Brain death and its difference from Coma. The process of donation, pledging and registration as a patient was also explained. 

    Next there was a quiz on celebrities that have pledged,  another quiz Tamil movies that  has organ donation as part of the story and other interactive sessions. 

    More than 100 students picked a donor card with a promise to speak to their families and register online. MOHAN Foundation thanks Dr Raja Priyan the Medical Officer of IMU for coordinating this extensive event and the Director and HoDs of Different Departments for this support to the cause.
