Ms. Pallavi Kumar was invited as a speaker to the 3rd Nursing Conclave and Advanced Skill Workshop, TRANSCON-2024, organised by Medanta - The Medicity Hospital, Gurugram

  • On January 24, 2024, Ms. Pallavi Kumar, Executive Director, MOHAN Foundation (MF), NCR, was invited to conduct a session on “Organ Donation: Concepts, Myths, and Misconception" in the 3rd Nursing Conclave and Advanced Skills Workshop, titled “Organ Donation and Transplantation Nursing," TRANSCON-2024, organised by Medanta-The Medicity Hospital, Gurugram.

     

    The Department of Nursing of Medanta-The Medicity Hospital, conducted the 3rd National CNE Workshop from January 23, 2024, to January 25, 2024. The workshop aimed at developing knowledge and skills in the field of transplant nursing. The session was attended by medical professionals.

     

    Ms. Kumar was also accompanied by Dr. Muneet Kaur Sahi, Programme Manager, MF NCR; Ms. Simran Anand, Programme Officer, MF NCR; and Ms. Sanya Santosh, Programme Officer, MF NCR.

     

    Ms. Pallavi addressed the following topics with the help of a PowerPoint presentation:

    • Who can donate?

    • Brain death

    • Establishing brain death

    • Causes of brain death

    • Coma is not brain death.

    • Donation rates per million population

    • Transplantation of Human Organs Act, 1994

    • Which organs can be donated?

    • Eye donation and steps required to preserve the corneas after death

    • Myths and facts about organ donation

    • Case studies

     

    Ms. Pallavi Kumar and Dr. Muneet Kaur Sahi were taken around by Lt. Col. Sandhya V. Nair, NS Training and Development, Medanta-The Medicity Hospital, Gurugram, to show the hospital’s new initiative of skill station areas, which provides transplant nurses with practical knowledge about transplantations.

     

    Close to 200 participants attended the session.
