Ms Pallavi Kumar invited as a guest speaker at the Public Awareness Campaign on Organ Donation at Batra Hospital & Medical Research Center, New Delhi

  • On November 19, 2019, Ms. Pallavi Kumar Executive Director MOHAN Foundation, Delhi-NCR was invited to deliver a guest lecture on, “Myths and Misconceptions on Organ Donation,” at an event organized at Batra Hospital & Medical Research Centre, New Delhi. The event, “Public Awareness Campaign on Organ Donation,” was organized to commemorate organ donation month. It was an initiative of the Department of Nephrology and Transplant Medicine and Lt. Col (Retd) Sandhya Nair Transplant Manager, Batra Hospital coordinated the event planning process.

     

    Batra Hospital & Medical Research Centre was established in 1987 by Ch. Aishi Ram Batra Public Charitable Trust. It is the capital’s first multi-specialty private hospital of Delhi. Their aim has always been to bring world-class medical care within the reach of common man. Today the hospital offers a tertiary level care in 42 specialties and has assembled the finest medical talent – Physicians, Surgeons, Nursing Professionals and Technicians.

     

    The programme began by an invocation song performed by a donor-recipient couple i.e. mother and daughter. Dr. R.K. Mani Medical Director, Batra Hospital & Medical Research Centre gave the welcome address and introduced MOHAN Foundation to the audience and its role in creating awareness in the field of organ donation since 1997.

     

    Ms. Kumar in her talk on “myths and misconceptions on organ donation” shared that a lot of misconceptions about the organ donation process exists and sometimes these myths can prevent someone from signing up. Explaining the myth on whether religion prohibits organ donation, she explained that most religions endorse the act of giving and what bigger form of giving can there be than giving life. She then shared few donor-recipient stories and motivated the audience to come forward and pledge their organs. 

     

    There was a role play performed by the nursing students and a fashion show by recipients. A poster competition had also been held in the hospital and the prizes were given away at the end of the event.

     

    Prof. (Dr.) Debabarata Mukherjee Director & HOD, Nephrology & Transplant Medicine spoke on the Deceased Donation Programme at Batra Hospital. Other dignitaries who attended the event were Dr. Dharmendra Gupta Nodal Officer, Delhi Organ Transplant Cell and Col Manu Dogra HOD Nephrology, Army Research & Referral Hospital, Delhi.

     

    In the end, Lt Col (Retd) Sandhya Nair gave the vote of thanks. Ms Pallavi was felicitated with a memento. Close to 56 people attended the session.
